Connor Mahon began playing piano at age four and was composing his own pieces by age 6. Now 14, his compositions and performances garner widespread recognition. Most recently, Connor was named the 2026 Teen Composer Award winner by Continuum Contemporary Music. In 2025, the Sacora Trio, for which Connor is the pianist, was awarded the Grand Prize at the Canadian Music Competition for the 11 - 14 age category, while Connor won first place in piano and was the top-ranked soloist. Earlier in the year, the Sacora Trio won the National Mary Hildebrand Award from the ACNMP for their performance of Connor’s original piano trio, Sirens.
In 2024, Connor placed first in composition at the Toronto Kiwanis Festival and was a winner of the Florence Man & Bernard Sze Concerto Competition at the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Phil & Eli Taylor Academy for Young Artists. His performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9 featured an original cadenza he composed himself. In 2023, Connor was the Audience Choice Prize winner in piano in the OMNI competition and the Sacora Trio won 1st place for advanced chamber music at OYMI Toronto. In 2022, when Connor was just 11, one of his compositions won first place in the ORMTA provincial competition, and went on to win 2nd place at the national level.
Connor studies piano at the Taylor Academy in the studio of Michael Berkovsky, and composition with Eugene Astapov. Growing up in the intensely musical city of Guelph, he has become a regular contributor to fundraising performances and community programs. His 2024 fundraising concert for the Children’s Foundation of Guelph & Wellington raised over $3,400 for underprivileged kids to access music lessons and other extracurriculars. The Children’s Foundation honoured Connor with the Young Philanthropist Award for 2024. When he’s not engaged in his music, Connor loves being outdoors and caring for the flora and fauna on his family’s farm.
