The Sacora Trio formed in 2023, when its members were just 12 years old. Award-winning soloists in their own rights, Salma Khakimov (violin), Connor Mahon (piano), and Ryan Yin (cello), began charming audiences immediately as an ensemble. From an early first prize at OYMI Toronto in 2023 - just months into their collaboration - the trio has gone on to become a nationally recognized chamber group. Already in 2025, the trio has been awarded the National Mary Hildebrand Award by Alliance for Canadian New Music Projects, and the Grand Prize by the Canadian Music Competition. The young musicians and friends are all students of the Phil and Eli Taylor Academy for Young Artists at the Royal Conservatory of Music. As their music is such an important part of their lives, Salma, Connor and Ryan all work to share music and create opportunities for others in their communities and abroad. They regularly perform for charitable organizations supporting music education and access for others, including the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington, Project Apollo, and organizations rebuilding damaged music schools in Ukraine. The Trio is coached by esteemed musicians Luri Lee and Jeanie Chung, and has received guidance from the renowned Marie Bérard. With an ever-expanding repertoire, the Sacora Trio continues to pursue new musical opportunities.
